Our History
2014: Founding Year
In April 2014, Mudex was founded in Western Australia. The Company’s manufacturing division, Drillchem, was also established at this time.
It wasn’t long before Mudex’s name and reputation grew in the drilling fluid industry – and in August of 2014, just 4 months into operations, Mudex formed a strategic partnership with NorthStar and MayanStar drilling fluid companies thus providing the three companies with greater buying power and strengthening existing supply chains.
This strategic partnership enabled the company to expand its market reach and become a well-known entity in the international drilling industry.
2015: Product Developments in Diamond Drilling
2015 was a transformative year for product development at Mudex. In January, the company built specialty equipment for testing lubricants used in diamond drilling.
Extensive quality assurance and the ability to implement product improvements – as enabled by the new equipment – saw Mudex go on to release an X Torque speciality lubricant for diamond drilling, unaffected by water quality in September of the same year.
Other notable activity in 2015 was the appointment of area managers on the East coast as Mudex continued its pathway of rapid expansion, as well as the commencement of BIO HAMMER OIL G sale and distribution into US and Mexican markets.
2016: Purpose-Built R&D Facility
At the beginning of 2016, Mudex advanced its profile as a drilling fluids innovator, establishing a purpose-built research and development facility, located at the company’s Head Office in Perth, Western Australia.
The facility would go on to help Mudex develop a range of customisable, adaptable drilling fluids that have earned the company a reputation as one of the most thorough, high-quality drilling mud developer and distributors in the market.
In the same year, Mudex acquired a dedicated distributor in New Zealand.
2017: Innovation Sets Mudex Apart
Early on in 2017, Mudex developed a range of never-before-seen drilling fluid products that proved revolutionary in the drilling industry – including the smart polymer GEO BOND product.
Further revolutionary works by the company included the founding of Spinex – Mudex’s dedicated equipment division. With this newfound branch of Mudex’s business, the first Mud Spinner was developed and trialled in Victoria.
In May 2017, Mudex was awarded a notable fluids contract for Silver City Drilling, engaged to assist with the drilling of the Perth Deepwater production and recharge bores.
2018: Provisional Patent for SPINEX
In mid 2018, Mudex’s Spinex division was granted a provisional patent for the Company’s specially designed Mud Spinner.
As global expansion for the business continued, Mudex added the Indonesian market to its distributor list.
2019: Recognition of Achievements in Asia Pacific
At the beginning of 2019, Mudex purchased the Toll blending company Eleytheria and all its associated equipment. Due to this continued expansion, a West Australian area manager was appointed to assist in efficient operations.
Investing in company growth proved beneficial for the company. In September of 2019, Mudex was awarded the preferred supplier status with Boart Longyear Asia Pacific.
Following the provisional patent awarded in 2018, Spinex was granted a full patent for the specially designed Mud Spinner.
2020: New Premises for Continued Growth
In March of 2020, Mudex developed the Poly Block applicator and Poly block. The company was also granted a provisional patent for this innovation, which was fully granted in mid 2021.
In April, Mudex received formal recognition of its Australian made products and was given permission to roll out Australian made labelling on products.
As Mudex continued to increase its scale of operations, they identified a need for a larger premises, and purchased a suitable facility in December of 2020.
Adding to its global markets, Mudex established a distributor in West Africa in May.
2021: Business Agreement is an Australian First
Product development was a prevalent theme in early 2021, with Mudex creating BIO HAMMER OIL NT utilizing Nano Technology. The new premises also saw Mudex increase productivity and developmental capacity.
Over the course of 2021, Mudex achieved Drillchem upgrades across all liquid mixing thanks to increased volumes, tripled Drillchem plant output, purchased 4 x 28,000lts ISO tanks for larger bulk oil storage, commissioned 2 x 16,000 mixing tanks and achieved ISO 9001 QAQC compliance – a significant achievement.
In mid-2021, Mudex negotiated a deal with Wonbon, awarding the company exclusivity as a Mudex distributor in the Pilbara.
The agreement made Wonbon the first Indigenous distributer for Drilling fluids in Australia.
Mudex and Wonbon’s deal was furthered in July, when the companies entered a Joint Venture (JV) for Wonbon to create their own range of industrial cleaning chemicals.
