Potassium Chloride
Clay inhibitor and weighting agent
Product Description
POTASSIUM CHLORIDE (KCL) is a soluble salt that is also a very efficient shale and clay stabilizer.
Applications
POTASSIUM CHLORIDE can be added directly to a drilling fluid system to enhance its inhibitive properties and prevent clays from reacting with a water based drilling fluid. It can also be used as a weighting agent ranging in densities from 1.005 SG (8.4ppg) to 1.16 SG (9.7ppg)
Polymers such as the POLY VIS, VIS PAC and VIS TROL range can all be used with POTASSIUM CHLORIDE. It is recommended the polymers be hydrated prior to adding POTASSIUM CHLORIDE
Advantages
• Inexpensive and readily available
• Stabilises problematic clay and shales
• Easy to mix
• Compatible with most drilling fluids
